Bigos Hunters Stew Recipe

Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb sauerkraut
  • 1 lb fresh cabbage, shredded
  • 1 lb pork shoulder, cubed
  • 0.5 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • 0.5 lb bacon, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 pieces bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Instructions 

  1. In a large pot, cook bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, brown the pork shoulder. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add onion and garlic to the pot, cook until softened.
  4. Add sauerkraut, fresh cabbage, beef broth, red wine, bay leaves, and caraway seeds. Stir well.
  5. Return bacon and pork to the pot. Add smoked sausage.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
