Ingredients

Bagel Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1.5 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda for boiling water

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Gradually add warm water and mix until a dough forms.
  2. 2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. 3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. 4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. 5. Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Shape each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center and stretch to form a bagel shape.
  6. 6. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add baking soda to the boiling water.
  7. 7. Boil bagels, 2-3 at a time, for 1 minute on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. 8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
