Main Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup rum or bourbon (optional)
1. In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until well combined.
2. In a saucepan, heat the milk and cream over medium heat until just simmering.
3. Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 5-7 minutes).
5. Remove from heat and stir in the nutmeg, vanilla extract, and rum or bourbon if using.
6. Chill in the refrigerator before serving. Serve with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.
