Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • to taste maple syrup or honey optional

Instructions 

  1. Bring water and salt to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Gradually whisk in the cornmeal to avoid lumps.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring frequently, until thickened, about 10 minutes.
  4. Pour the mixture into a loaf pan and let it cool until firm.
  5. Once firm, cut the mush into slices.
  6. Heat butter in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the slices until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Serve hot with maple syrup or honey if desired.
