Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb dried split peas
  • 1 ham bone or 2 cups diced ham
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions 

  1. Rinse split peas under cold water.
  2. In a large pot, combine all ingredients.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
  4. Remove ham bone, chop meat, and return to soup.
  5. Season with salt and pepper.
