Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions 

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks.
  6. Cut off the top of each bread bowl and hollow out the inside. Fill with your favorite soup or stew and serve.
