Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes
  • 0.5 cup chopped onion
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 dash cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until thickened. Add salt and cayenne pepper.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potatoes and onions. Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes. Repeat layers.
  5. Sprinkle grated cheese on top.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove foil for the last 10 minutes to brown the cheese.
