Slow Cooker French Onion Soup
A classic French onion soup made easy in the slow cooker.

Main Ingredients
- 6 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoon butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 8 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt to taste
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper to taste
- 1 baguette sliced and toasted
- 2 cups grated Gruyere cheese
1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
2. Add the garlic and sugar, cooking for another minute.
3. Transfer the onions to the slow cooker. Add the wine, broth, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
5. Before serving, remove the bay leaf. Ladle the soup into bowls, top with toasted baguette slices, and sprinkle with Gruyere cheese.
